What the FDNY asks for

The same requirements apply to all 36

The certificate is issued by the FDNY, and this is what they ask of you.

  • You are at least 18

With a reasonable understanding of English.

  • Government-issued photo ID

Presented when you apply and when you take the exam.

  • A letter of recommendation from your employer

On official letterhead, stating your full name, your experience and your work address. It is valid for 6 months from the date it is issued. Self-employed applicants submit a notarized letter instead.

  • A $25 FDNY application fee

Paid to the FDNY, on top of the course price.

You can still take the exam without a job in hand.

The FDNY issues a temporary letter with a photo that you can use while looking for work. The card itself is issued once you are employed and can supply the documents. The one exception is a certificate with a school requirement, where you finish the course first.

Not sure which code you need?

Your employer or the FDNY inspector will usually name the certificate. If you have the job description but not the code, call or text 347.915.4822 and describe the work.

Training a crew on one certificate

Group pricing, invoicing and purchase orders, and no minimum group size. Everyone can study at the same time because it is on demand.
