Tauris Tech LLC (“Tauris Tech”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) provides skilled trades training through this website at tauristech.org and through the Tauris Training App for Android, iPhone and iPad, Mac, and Windows.
This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers both the website and the apps. Where something applies to only one of them, we say so. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the website or the apps.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
What you give us on this website
If you contact us through the website, we collect your name, your email address, your message, and any phone number you choose to give us. We use it only to respond to you.
The website itself has no accounts, no login, and no payments. Course signup and payment happen in the apps or through an invoice we send you.
What you give us in the apps
To take a course you create an account in the Tauris Training App. Depending on the course and on what the relevant licensing body requires, we collect your name, email address, and phone number; your date of birth; your course activity, meaning lessons viewed, quiz and exam answers and scores, simulator sessions, chapters unlocked, and completion records; and your payment and balance history.
What we collect automatically on the website
We run our own analytics, on our own servers. There is no third-party analytics service, no advertising network, no social media pixel, and no cookie. For each page you open we record the page path, a broad device category of mobile, tablet, or desktop, a random visitor identifier, a random session identifier, and a timestamp. When you leave the page we also record how long it was open, how much of that time you were actively using it, and how far down the page you scrolled.
Once per visit we record where you came from: the web address of the external page that linked you, ignoring links within our own site, together with any campaign parameters carried in that link, which tell us whether an advertisement, an email, or a post brought you here.
We also count a small number of named actions: starting and sending the contact form, clicking through to sign up or to buy a course, choosing an app store, tapping our phone number or email address, opening the menu and choosing a page from it, opening a course card, an approval letter, or a request for a meeting, downloading the hands-on classes brochure, and playing a video. One of them is not a click: we record when a course price first scrolls into view, so we can tell how many people who reach a price go on to do anything about it. For each we record that the action happened, the page it happened on, and a short label describing which button it was, such as which app store you chose or whether the button sat at the top or the bottom of the page. Nothing you typed is ever attached to any of them, so the contents of the contact form stay out of analytics entirely, and starting the form is recorded without any of what you started writing.
Like any web server, ours also observes the IP address a request arrives from.
The two identifiers are random values generated in your browser and stored there. They contain no name, email address, or device fingerprint, and they are not linked to any app account. Clearing your browsing data resets them, and private browsing mode stops them from persisting at all.
What we collect automatically in the apps
Our servers keep standard operational records: sign-in times, the device or browser a session is running on, and error logs. We use the device record to enforce the rule that an account may be signed in on only one computer, browser, or mobile device at a time, which protects both exam integrity and our course material.
HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the information described above to:
- Create and administer your account, and give you access to the courses you have paid for.
- Verify that the person completing lessons, quizzes, and exams is the person enrolled, including by limiting an account to one signed-in device at a time.
- Track your progress through a course, unlock chapters as milestones and payments are met, and record completions.
- Issue course completion documents, such as the 200-hour letter required for the NYC Q-01.
- Process payments, send invoices and receipts, and track any balance outstanding.
- Answer the questions you send us and provide customer support.
- Send you information about your account, your course, exam scheduling, and material changes to a course you are enrolled in.
- Understand which pages and courses people use, so we can improve them.
- Detect and prevent fraud, account sharing, cheating on exams, and unauthorized copying of course material.
- Meet our legal, tax, accounting, and licensing-body obligations.
We do not use your information to serve you targeted advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose it only in these situations:
Service providers
Companies that run parts of our operation on our behalf: hosting and infrastructure, payment processing, email delivery, and identity verification. They may use your information only to perform that service for us, under contract, and not for their own purposes.
Certifying and licensing bodies
When a program requires proof of training, we confirm your enrollment, hours, and completion to the relevant body. We send only what that confirmation requires. Documentation that a licensing body needs from you directly, such as the FDNY application materials, is submitted by you, not by us.
Legal and safety
If required by law, subpoena, or court order, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to investigate suspected fraud, protect the safety of any person, or enforce our terms.
Business transfer
If Tauris Tech is merged, acquired, or sells part of its business, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will require the recipient to honor this policy, and we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a materially different policy.
COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
This website sets no cookies, for analytics or anything else. It uses your browser’s own storage for the two random identifiers described above, and for the referral and campaign details of your current visit. The visitor identifier stays until you clear your browsing data; the session identifier and the referral details are discarded when you close the tab. We use no tracking pixels, web beacons, or advertising tags, so there is no cross-site tracking of you to opt out of.
The Q-01 course page has three embedded YouTube videos that stay unloaded, along with any cookie YouTube would set, until you click play. Once you do, YouTube's own privacy policy applies to your viewing.
SECURITY
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls that limit staff access to what their role requires, and the single active device rule on student accounts. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant regulators as the law requires.
YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS
Wherever you live, you may ask us to do the following:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Delete your account and the personal information we hold, subject to records we must keep by law or to substantiate a certification we issued.
- Opt out of non-essential email at any time.
- Be free from discrimination for exercising any of these rights. We will not deny you a course, charge you a different price, or give you a lower quality of service.
To exercise any of these, email info@tauristech.org or call 347.915.4822. We may need to verify your identity before we act, which for a student account means confirming details only the account holder would know. We respond within 45 days, and we will tell you if we need a further 45 days.
California residents
California law gives you the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties we disclose to; to request deletion or correction; and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. Under the “Shine the Light” law you may request details of any personal information disclosed for third-party direct marketing in the previous calendar year; we make no such disclosures. If you are a California resident under 18 with an account, you may request removal of content you posted publicly.
Other states and countries
Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws, and users in the United Kingdom and European Economic Area, have equivalent rights, including the right to appeal a refused request and to complain to a supervisory authority. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on performance of our contract with you for delivering courses and processing payments, on legal obligation for tax and licensing records, and on our legitimate interest in securing our services and understanding how our website is used.
CHILDREN
Our courses require students to be at least 18 years old, and neither the website nor the apps are directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
DO NOT TRACK AND GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL
We do not track you across other websites, so a Do Not Track signal has nothing to act on here. Where the law requires us to honor a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt out of sale or sharing, we honor it, though we do not sell or share personal information in the first place.
LINKS TO OTHER SITES
The website links to sites we do not control. Once you follow a link, this policy no longer applies, and the privacy policy of the site you reach governs what happens to your information.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we will give you notice by email or in the app before it takes effect.
